Jan Philipp Röer is Professor of Experimental Psychology at Witten/Herdecke University. He studied psychology at the University Düsseldorf and University of Reading, UK. He received his doctorate from the University Düsseldorf in 2011 where he was habilitated in 2018 on the processing of irrelevant auditory information in memory.
One of Röer‘s main research interests is the cognitive psychology of selective attention. He is interested under which conditions cognitive control mechanisms can serve to counter interference caused by distractors. In another line of research, he is investigating how the cognitive system learns regularities within the distractor material and detects and reacts to violations of these regularities.
He is a Visiting Fellow in July 2022 in the context of the CAS Research Group „Handling Visual Distraction" led by Prof. Dr. Hermann Müller.
