Workshop organized by Dr. Mike Rüb (Charité/LMU) and Prof. Maura Spiegel, Ph.D. (CAS Fellow/Columbia University).

This interactive workshop explores innovative approaches from narrative medicine. Combining close reading, visual analysis, and reflective practice, the event demonstrates how cinematic storytelling can deepen attention, empathy, and interpretive skills in medical and health science education.

Film as an Intersubjective Event: Perception and Relationality in Narrative Medicine

Maura Spiegel is Senior Lecturer in English and Comparative Literature and a founder of the program “Narrative Medicine” at Columbia University. She teaches narrative and film courses to medical students, runs international writing workshops, and has published widely on literature, film, and the history of emotions. Maura Spiegel is currently a Visiting Fellow at CAS.


The event is part of the CAS Research Focus “Narations of Medicine”.
