Alexander S. Merkurjev is Professor of Mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a leading expert in algebraic K-theory, Galois cohomology, and the theory of quadratic forms. His groundbreaking work on the norm residue isomorphism theorem (formerly the Bloch-Kato conjecture) has had a profound impact on modern algebra and arithmetic geometry. He is currently fellow at CAS.
