Prof. Nicholas Barton, Ph.D.
Chair: Prof. Richard Merrill, Ph.D. (CAS Young Center/LMU)
Nicholas Barton heads the research group for evolutionary genetics at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) in Klosterneuburg. He develops mathematical models to investigate fundamental questions of evolution: How do new species arise, what restricts adaptation and what shapes the genetic system? This year, Barton was elected a member of the National Academy of Sciences (USA). Other awards include an ERC grant, the Mendel Medal of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the Royal Society Darwin Medal, the Darwin-Wallace Medal and the Erwin Schrödinger Prize.
The lecture is part of the CAS Research Focus “Speciation”.
