This interdisciplinary workshop marks the conclusion of the two-year research initiative, the CAS Research Focus “New Cosmology”, dedicated to examining the idea of a “fine-tuned Universe”. Researchers from philosophy, theology, ethnology, and (astro)physics come together to explore how contemporary scientific models resonate with or challenge traditional conceptions of a well-ordered cosmos. Drawing on both historical perspectives and cutting-edge research, the event offers a space for critical reflection and cross-disciplinary dialogue on the structure, origin, and meaning of the universe.
Speakers are Fred Adams (University of Michigan), Til Birnstiel (LMU), Andreas Burkert (LMU), Erik Curiel (MCMP, LMU/BHI, Harvard), Willem Drees (Tilburg), Georgi Dvali (LMU/MPI für Physik), Jessica Frazier (Oxford), Stephan Paul (TUM), Olivia Judson (Evolutionary Biologist and Science Writer, Berlin), Ulf-G. Meißner (Universität Bonn & Forschungszentrum Jülich), Paul Rimmer (Cambridge), Regine Schulz (LMU/HAWK Hildesheim).
The workshop is organized in cooperation with the ORIGINS Excellence Cluster and will take place at the Munich Institute for Astro-, Particle and BioPhysics (MIAPbP).
