The Fine Tuned Universe. A New Cosmology?

Date:

29 October 2025 - 31 October 2025

Location:

MIAPbP Program Center | Excellence Cluster ORIGINS Boltzmannstraße 2 85748 Garching

This interdisciplinary workshop marks the conclusion of the two-year research initiative, the CAS Research Focus “New Cosmology”, dedicated to examining the idea of a “fine-tuned Universe”. Researchers from philosophy, theology, ethnology, and (astro)physics come together to explore how contemporary scientific models resonate with or challenge traditional conceptions of a well-ordered cosmos. Drawing on both historical perspectives and cutting-edge research, the event offers a space for critical reflection and cross-disciplinary dialogue on the structure, origin, and meaning of the universe.

Participants include the members of the CAS Research Focus “New Cosmology” as well as Fred Adams (University of Michigan), Erik Curiel (LMU), Willem Drees (Tilburg), Jessica Frazier (Oxford), Olivia Judson (Berlin), Ulf-Gerrit Meißner (Bonn), Paul Rimmer (Cambridge).

The workshop is organized in cooperation with the ORIGINS Excellence Cluster and will take place at the Munich Institute for Astro-, Particle and BioPhysics (MIAPbP).
