Alexander S. Merkurjev is a professor of mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
His research specializes in algebra, with a focus on algebraic groups, Galois cohomology, quadratic forms, and algebraic K-theory. Merkurjev is renowned for his foundational contributions to the understanding of the structure and classification of algebraic groups and central simple algebras. His groundbreaking work on the norm residue isomorphism theorem (formerly the Bloch-Kato conjecture) has had a profound impact on modern algebra and arithmetic geometry.
Alexander S. Merkurjev is a member of Prof. Dr. Nikita Geldhauser`s CAS Research Group Algebraic Groups, Motives and Applications. He will be in Munich as a Visiting Fellow in the year 2025/2026.
