Cayley Clifford is Deputy Chief Editor of Africa Check, South Africa.
Africa Check is a non-profit fact-checking organization founded in 2012 to promote accuracy in public debate and the media in Africa. Cayley Clifford has experience fact-checking claims around migration, crime and health in South Africa, and also has an interest in investigating social media scams. She joined Africa Check as Deputy Chief Editor in May 2022, having previously occupied a research role within the organization since 2018. Prior to joining Africa Check, Cayley Clifford worked at the South African Institute of International Affairs, where she led the program on Russia-Africa relations. She has a master's degree in international relations from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.
At the invitation of Prof Dr Sahana Udupa (Ethnology, LMU), she is a Visiting Fellow at CAS and part of the CAS Research Group Below the Radar? Messaging Apps, Encryption and the Enticement of Extreme Speech.
