Leonie Steinl is Junior Professor of Criminal Law, International Criminal Law and Interdisciplinary Legal Research at the University of Münster, where she leads the DFG Emmy Noether Young Researchers Group „Angriffe auf das Anderssein: Eine strafrechtwissenschaftliche Untersuchung identitätsbegründeter Straftaten“ (Attacks on Otherness: A criminal law studies investigation of identity-based crimes). Prior to this, she was a research fellow at the Department of Criminal Law, Criminal Trial Law, International Criminal Law and Contemporary Legal History at the HU Berlin. She completed her Ph.D. in 2016 at the University of Hamburg with a thesis entitled „Child Soldiers as Agents of War and Peace: A Restorative Transitional Justice Approach to Accountability for Crimes under International Law”.
Leonie Steinl is a member of Prof. Dr. Julia Burkhardt’s CAS Research Group “Femicide: Interdisciplinary Approaches to a Global Historical Phenomenon”. She will be in Munich as a Visiting Fellow in summer 2026.
