Dirk Kaesler was Professor of Sociology at the University of Marburg until 2009. His areas of teaching and research are social and political theory, history of sociology, sociology of religion, and Max Weber-research. Since 2018 he is a member of Clare Hall, University of Cambridge. His most important publications include (as editor) the three-volume Theorien der Soziologie (Klassiker der Soziologie and Aktuelle Theorien der Soziologie (München 1999–2005) and Max Weber. Preuße, Denker, Muttersohn. Eine Biographie (München 2014). He regularly contributes to literaturkritik.de.
