History

Eric H. Ash is Associate Professor in the Department of History at Wayne State University in Detroit.

His research interest mainly concerns early modern expert cultures. The focuses of his publications lie on England in the 16th and 17th centuries, with a thematic emphasis on the areas of trade, navigation and engineering. The connection between expertise, knowledge and power receives particular attention in all cases. He is currently working on a study on the draining of the English fens.

In May 2013, Eric H. Ash will be at the CAS as a visiting fellow, following an invitation from Dr. Susanne Friedrich (CAS Junior Researcher in Residence 2013/13). The goal of his visit will be the continuation of the existing scholarly cooperation. He will also participate in February 2013 in the workshop "Experts in Early Modern Expansion".
