George Ellis is Professor Emeritus at the Mathematics Department of the University of Cape Town.
His teaching and research interests are among others general relativity theory and its application to the study of the large-scale structure of the universe (cosmology), the history and philosophy of cosmology and complex systems and emergence of complexity.
In May 2025, he is a Visiting Fellow at CAS at the invitation of Prof. Dr. Stephan Hartmann and Prof. Dr. Andreas Burkert (LMU) as part of the CAS Research Focus New Cosmology.
