Herb Susmann is currently a post-doctoral researcher in the Division of Biostatistics at the Department of Population Health, NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He is working with Iván Díaz on methods in causal inference.

His research interests include causal inference, semi-parametric statistics, and probabilistic forecasting. He is interested in applications in global health, climate change, and political economy.

Before joining NYU, he worked for several years as a software developer at the Silent Spring Institute in Newton, Massachusetts. After completing his Ph.D. in Biostatistics at the Department of Biostatistics & Epidemiology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst under Leontine Alkema, he spent a year as a postdoctoral researcher at the CNRS in the CEREMADE laboratory at the Université Paris Dauphine – PSL.

In November 2025, Herb Susmann is a Visiting Fellow at the invitation of Prof. Dr. Michael Schomaker (LMU) as part of the CAS Research Focus Medical Data Processing.
