Joan Martí Molist is professor at the Institute of Earth Sciences Jaume Almera of the Spanish Scientific Research Council in Barcelona.
He studied geology and obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Barcelona, where he was an assistant professor between 1981 and 1986. In 1986, he moved to the Institute of Earth Sciences Jaume Almera of the Spanish Scientific Research Council in Barcelona, where he worked as a post-doctoral researcher until 1989 and then as a tenured scientist, senior scientist and, since 2000, as a full professor.
Joan Martí‘s research focuses on the physical properties of volcanoes, the structure and dynamics of collapse calderas and super volcanoes and the dynamics of magma chambers. He is an expert in experimental and numerical modeling and hazard assessment of volcanic processes.
He is a Visiting Fellow from January to April 2019 in the context of the CAS Research Group "Magma to Tephra: Ash in the Earth System" led by Prof. Dr. Donald B. Dingwell.
