Egyptology and Coptology

Julia Budka is Professor for Egyptian Archaeology and Art History at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich. She is Principal Investigator of her second ERC-Project: “DiverseNile” which concerns cultural diversity in the Middle Nile Valley. Furthermore, she is leading two archaeological projects, one in Egypt called “Ankh-Hor” and the other in Sudan called “MUAFS”.

Most recent results of her research include the monograph AcrossBorders 2: Living in New Kingdom Sai (2020), the conference volume Egyptian royal ideology and kingship under periods of foreign rulers ‒ case studies from the First Millennium BCE, 9. Symposium zur ägyptischen Königsideologie (2019), the book chapter Nubians in Egypt during the 25th Dynasty, in The Oxford Handbook of Ancient Nubia (2020), as well as numerous project reports.

At CAS she is a member of the CAS Research Focus “Settlements” and of the CAS Young Center.
