Mary Frazer is Akademische Rätin at the Alexander von Humboldt-Chair for the Ancient History of the Near and Middle East, where she researches and teaches. Before coming to LMU Munich in 2018 she studied in Oxford, New Haven and Heidelberg and taught at Yale and Trinity College Dublin.

Project at CAS

Her first book, Akkadian Royal Letters in Later Mesopotamian Tradition (forthcoming with Brill in April 2024), examines the authenticity of royal letters that circulated in Mesopotamian scribal centres after the lifetimes of their correspondents in the period ca. 700-50 BCE. Her second book project, a chapter of which she will write during her residency at the CAS, focuses on the intellectual culture of the royal court in Babylon during the Neo-Babylonian Empire (ca. 626-539 BCE).
