Michèle Lowrie is Professor of Ancient Literature at the University of Chicago.
In her research, Michèle Lowrie is primarily concerned with Roman poets from the end of the Republic and the beginning of the Empire, such as Horace and Virgil. She has published several works on the subject, including Horace’s Narrative Odes (1997) and Writing, Performance, and Authority in Augustan Rome (2009). In her upcoming works, her focus will be on the idea of security in Rome, state violence during the collapse of the republic and the representation of law in Roman literature.
Michèle Lowrie will be at the CAS in December 2012, in March, June and July 2013, in July 2014 as well as in August and September 2018 upon invitation from Prof. Dr. Barbara Vinken (CAS Senior Researcher in Residence 2012/13).
