Nikita Karpenko is a professor in the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Alberta.
His research lies in the fields of algebra and algebraic geometry, with a focus on algebraic cycles, quadratic forms, and the theory of motives. He is particularly known for his contributions to the theory of Chow groups, essential dimension, and the study of projective homogeneous varieties. Karpenko’s work has advanced the understanding of the structure and behavior of algebraic varieties over arbitrary fields, often revealing deep connections between geometry, algebra, and arithmetic. He has authored numerous influential publications and is recognized as a leading expert in the theory of motives and related areas.
Nikita Karpenko is a member of Prof. Dr. Nikita Geldhauser`s CAS Research Group Algebraic Groups, Motives and Applications. He will be in Munich as a Visiting Fellow in the year 2025/2026.
