Norman Yao is Professor of Physics at the Harvard University.
His research lies at the interface between AMO physics, condensed matter and quantum information science. In recent years, the synergy between these fields has been strengthened by the ability to assemble complex quantum many-body systems from individual atoms, ions, molecules and photons. These advances have opened the door to realising non-equilibrium phases of matter, to tests of quantum computational advantage and measuring the intrinsic properties of topological phases. He is currently interested in the study of spin liquids, Floquet phases of matter, quantum information encryption, emergent hydrodynamics and quantum measurement at high pressures.
He is a Visiting Fellow at CAS LMU during the summer semester 2025 as well as during the winter semester 2026/27 at the invitation of Prof. Dr. Immanuel Bloch (LMU). In 2025 and 2026 he is an Honorary Fellow at CAS.
