Simone Glasl studied sinology in Munich, Shanghai, and New Haven. Simone received her Ph.D. in East Asian Languages and Literatures from Yale University, where she did research on modern Chinese literature, linguistics, and history of emotions. Her dissertation “In the Place of Others: Sympathy in Modern Chinese Literature and Literary Criticism from the 1910s to the 1950s“ analyzes the impact of literary culture and political ideology on the expression and perception of feelings.

At CAS, she is responsible for the postdoctoral programs, the Young Center, and CAS research focuses in which the Young Center is involved.
