Zhengfu Guo is professor at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGGCAS) in Beijing, China.
He studied geology at the Hebei College of Geology and China University of Geosciences, Beijing (CUGB). He completed his doctoral thesis at CUGB under the supervision of Jinfu Deng. He completed his postdoc with Jiaqi Liu at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGGCAS). In 1998, he became an associate professor at IGGCAS, where he has been a full professor since 2007. He currently leads the Volcanism and Environmental Evolution research group at IGGCAS.
Zhengfu Guo’s work is driven by a strong interest in igneous petrogenesis and its geodynamic implications. For example, he is an expert in the post-collisional K-rich magmatism in Tibet and its constraints on the uplift of the Tibetan Plateau.
He is a Visiting Fellow from February to April 2019 in the context of the CAS Research Group "Magma to Tephra: Ash in the Earth System" led by Prof. Dr. Donald B. Dingwell. Together with Kelly Russel he will talk about "The Pacific Ring of Fire: Insights from Canada and China" in the research colloquium series at CAS on 13 March.
