Heart Insight

Every day, around 11,000 people are admitted to hospital in Germany with suspected heart attacks; approximately 40 % of all deaths can be traced back to heart and circulation disease. The new CAS research focus "Heart Insight" turns its attention to brand new insights from the field of medicine and discusses the significance of the heart with researchers from the fields of cultural studies and humanities

To begin with in the summer semester, the lecture series "Heart Insight" will approach this central organ from four different directions: following an examination of ancient and Arabic philosophy by Professor Peter Adamson, the cultural studies specialist Dr. Fay Bound Alberti will illuminate the emotional history of the heart. The medical expert Professor Thomas Eschenhagen will then illustrate acute medical procedures, while Professor Barbara Vinken will focus on "matters of the heart" ("Herzenssache").
