Tagung unter der Leitung von Dr. Nikolina Hatton (CAS Researcher in Residence/LMU).
The workshop focuses on several poems across literary periods that thematize the desire for retribution and violence as a response to perceived injustice on the part of the speaker. A central question is whether poetry (or a specific poem) engages in politics directly or should be seen instead as an affective outlet for the speaker. In exploring a wide range of poetry written in diverse political contexts, discussants will consider continuities as well as potential classifications for the use of the violent imagination in poetry.
Teilnehmer/innen sind u.a. Irmtraud Huber (Konstanz), Kevin Killeen (CAS Fellow/University of York), Erin Murphy (CAS Fellow/Boston University).
Nikolina Hatton ist im Sommersemester 2025 Researcher in Residence am CAS.
