Samuel Scott is a researcher in Geothermal Systems at the Institute of Earth Sciences, University of Iceland, in Reykjavík.
He received his PhD in Earth Sciences from ETH Zürich in 2016 and has been working at the University of Iceland since 2021.
His research lies at the intersection of volcanology and geothermal science, focusing on interactions between magma, hydrothermal systems, and surrounding rocks and their implications for geothermal energy production. He combines field observations, geochemical analyses, and numerical modelling. His current research includes magma dynamics and degassing, cooling of magmatic intrusions, superhot geothermal resources, and the modelling of hydrothermal systems. A particular focus is on the recent eruptions on the Reykjanes Peninsula and on developing sustainable approaches to geothermal energy production.
Samuel Scott is a member of the CAS Research Group “Enabling Deep Earth Access,” led by Prof. Dr. Yan Lavallée. In 2026/27, he is a Visiting Fellow at CAS.
Kick-Off Workshop of the CAS Research Group “Enabling Deep Earth Access”, led by Prof. Dr. Yan Lavallée (CAS Research Group/LMU).
