Stephen Sitch is Professor in Physical Geography at the University of Exeter.

His research focuses on the role of terrestrial vegetation within the climate system, with particular emphasis on its interactions with atmospheric processes and biogeochemical cycles. He was the principal developer of the LPJ model, the world’s most highly cited Dynamic Global Vegetation Model (DGVM). He currently serves as theme leader of community experiments of the Joint UK Land Environment Simulator (JULES). He has published extensively on modelling plant physiology, vegetation dynamics, biogeochemical cycles, and ecosystem-atmosphere interactions.

Stephen Sitch is a Visiting Fellow at CAS LMU from June to July 2026 upon invitation of Prof. Dr. Julia Pongratz (LMU).
